Nußdorf is a wine tavern area and a haven of peace and quiet within the hustle and bustle of the city of Vienna. There are also several high-end taverns and restaurants in Nußdorf just a short walk from the Danube moorings.  Nußdorf is a picturesque wine growing town and the surrounding hillsides of Leopoldsberg, Kahlenberg and Cobenzl are magnificent vantage points offering a sweeping view across the city of Vienna.

Local area & How to get here

From the 16th century onwards, Nußdorf was the most important waterfront in the Vienna region for ships transporting goods downstream to Vienna. As the other shipping routes to Vienna were very narrow, the larger ships moored at the port in Nußdorf, where the goods were loaded onto smaller vessels or horse-drawn carts.

In 1853 Empress Elisabeth (Sissi) rode the ship down to the station at Nußdorf, where she was given a very hearty and ostentatious reception. No other Habsburg bride before or since was given such a festive welcome. The couple and the wedding entourage indulged in a triumphal procession all the way to the palace at Schönbrunn.
