Governor Mikl-Leitner on board the MS Viking Gullveig
Yesterday, during a press breakfast, the great economic importance of river cruises for Lower Austria was highlighted.
Both Göttweig Abbey and many other businesses in the region benefit from the numerous shore excursions made by the many international cruise guests, who predominantly come from the USA.
Lower Austria generated a net turnover of 25.1 million euros in 2019 alone. The development in Krems an der Donau is particularly impressive: while only 71 ships docked in Krems in the year 2000, their number is expected to rise to around 1,500 ships in 2026.
DonauStationen contributes significantly to this added value for tourism with its lovingly maintained Danube stations. They form the vital link between water and land.
