Rules for Dürnstein
What should I, as a tour guide, keep in mind in Dürnstein?
Dürnstein is a living town, not a museum. Make our guests aware of this and to behave accordingly.
If a car, moped, motorcycle, cyclist, etc. is passing by, we step aside. Dürnstein’s main road is not a pedestrian only zone.
Appropriate behaviour: we try not to stand in the middle of the street; we do not shout or talk too loudly during the tour; we show respect and are polite to the residents; we respect private property and privacy of the residents.
We use different routes into town (Anzuggasse, Traunergasse, the path along the federal road, Treppelweg) to create distance between the groups.
We are not permitted to guide groups through the inner courtyard of Dürnstein abbey (private property) unless the group also visits the exhibition. We can give explanations outside and allow guests a few mnutes to explore individually.
We do not go to the cemetery with groups (protection of privacy).
We make our guests aware to not pick or taste grapes during picking season. This making it easier for mold or other diseases to develop.
The restroom at parking lot P1 is subject to a fee (€1). It is not permitted to stand in the doorway to let in guests without paying.
Austriaguides: please wear your badges visibly! We want residents to be able to clearly distinguish certified guides from illegal guides.
